Two years ago I moved into a house that has a garden that can be kindly described as uncared for. The weeds were waist high, and soon after we moved in, the weeds were so tangled behind the house that it became difficult to walk there. My stepson has described our yard as “sorta ghetto.”

Teenage Transition

by MananaMama on November 15, 2009

In the chaos that is my everyday life, I sometimes forget to pay attention to the small shifts going on around me. One of the shifts that I noticed recently is in my teenage stepson. This year he started high school, and with it an intense sports program and a commute by public bus. With [...]

I get so excited when the holidays roll around – the aisles of your favorite store filling up with decorations and dollar stores cramming their storefronts with cheap plastic trinkets. I’ve held off from buying decorations for the past couple of years, but finally my daughter is old enough to participate in the traditions – [...]

I wish this idea were my own, but sorry to say, it isn’t. Lately, my night-time reading selections consist of autobiographies on personal and family struggles. One of my least favourite activities these days is changing my toddler’s diapers. I look back on the gooey, runny poohies of my once-an-infact with nostalgic fondness. There’s nothing I hate more than a poopie toddler squirming her way to get out of being horizontal, while digging her toes straight into the goo.
For the benefit [...]

All of us have been there, a day that just won’t go our way. And then we watch our kids go through it and it’s an agonizing ordeal. Frumpy days are bound to happen. I say, let the bad vibes be your guide and go with it! Here’s a few ways you can use these [...]

Ah, forts – those wonderful creations that forego any gender or age barriers. Every kid, and heck – every adult, likes to build forts. For kids though, this is one of the ultimate creative opportunities. We’ve all probably built our own forts out of our mom’s old blankets under the kitchen table, but here are [...]
