Work, Life, Balance

Twelve minutes can be a very long time.
The Husband called to say he was coming home early, and I thought, awesome, I will get dinner on, big boy will get food in him before the five-thirty crazies. I put the breaded chicken in the oven and put the baby down after [...]

Does this sound familiar? Your child is crying hysterically, seemingly for no reason, and everyone around you (especially your mother-in-law) claims to know the purpose – “He’s cold, put on his socks”, “She’s hungry. Do you want a cookie sweetheart?”, “He needs a nap – he’s tired”.  But the answer is obvious to you, even [...]

SAVINGS SECRETS UNVEILED

by IMAGINATIONmama on October 29, 2009

I often hear from my friends and family that I am the go-to guru for finding things on the cheap. Snagging an item for sometimes half its’ listed price is like conquering Mt. Vesuvius to me. And I readily exclaim at what bargain I received it at when someone comments on the item. Now that [...]

My daughter refuses to eat vegetables. This is karma, working its way into our home. I had it too easy the first time around. My son, a voracious eater, had many different nicknames as a baby, often revolving around the massive hovering of food, of any type or texture. I began to think of [...]

I get so excited when the holidays roll around – the aisles of your favorite store filling up with decorations and dollar stores cramming their storefronts with cheap plastic trinkets. I’ve held off from buying decorations for the past couple of years, but finally my daughter is old enough to participate in the traditions – [...]

I wish this idea were my own, but sorry to say, it isn’t. Lately, my night-time reading selections consist of autobiographies on personal and family struggles. Two months ago I finished both “Beautiful Boy” by David Sheff and “Tweak: Growing up on Methamphetamines” by Nic Sheff (his son). The elder Sheff, if I can recall [...]

When our daughter was first born, we were living in a tiny Verdun apartment optimistically classified as a two bedroom. We loved it because it had character and charm in its wainscotted hallway and in the decorative plaster elements on the twelve-foot ceilings. We loved the marks of history in the stove-pipe hole high on [...]

Scheduling Down Time

by PeachyMamaOf2 on September 17, 2009

The other day, I went into my trusty calendar to plot out all the lessons, special events, etc. from now until December.  I’m sure all you other parents out there have done the same and found your calendar incredibly full already.  (If you can believe it, I already have 2 invitations for Christmas events!!!  How [...]

In my opinion, single parents are probably the hardest working category of people in the world. I don’t care under what circumstances you arrive at being a single parent; no matter how you look at it – it’s a lot of work and it all, ultimately, rests on your shoulders. It’s not just the labor [...]

One of my least favourite activities these days is changing my toddler’s diapers. I look back on the gooey, runny poohies of my once-an-infact with nostalgic fondness. There’s nothing I hate more than a poopie toddler squirming her way to get out of being horizontal, while digging her toes straight into the goo.
For the benefit [...]
